The popular caller ID app Truecaller on Thursday announced that the app now has more than 100 million daily active users. The app has successfully jumped from 100 million monthly active users to 100 million daily active users globally in less than a year. According to a blog by Alan Mamedi, CEO and Co-founder of Truecaller “There are only a handful of mobile-only services that impact as many users each and every day and we are humbled to be able to join this exclusive group.”
Truecaller app was developed by True Software Scandinavia AB, a privately held company in Stockholm, Sweden founded by Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam in 2009. The app was released for Android devices on May 31, 2012. The app is available for Android, iOS, Blackberry OS, Tizen, Symbian s60 Blackberry 10 and Windows Phone. Users can also check for a phone number using the website www.truecaller.com. The app allows users to find contact details globally given name or telephone number, and has an integrated caller ID service to achieve call-blocking functionality and social media integration to keep the phonebook up-to-date. The app uses crowd sourced data which enables it to collect data from users easily. In January 2017 Truecaller launched “Truecaller Backup” feature for Android devices which allows users to backup and restore their contacts, call history, block list and settings to Google Drive.
Truecaller has a world wide user base of more than 250 million users, of which more than 60 percent users are based in India. In 2017, it ranked as the fourth-most downloaded Android app in India. More than 500 million calls are made using the app monthly since last year. The app on Google Play Store has more than 100 million downloads and is ranked 3rd in Top Grossing Communication apps in India.
